Starting October 2023, several C-Band VSAT users in the city of Addis Ababa started to complain of interference , and blockage of reception on their installed VSAT system. Some Satellite companies reached out to us (AKASS engineering team) and we have done some research on the subject.
Our finding confirmed that the newly installed 5G antennas in the city are causing the disruption of VSAT network in the frequency of 3.2GHz to 4GHz range.
The pictures in this page shows the frequency captured by a telescopic antenna of our Spectrum analyzer. One of the operators also informed us that they are using C-Band for the newly installed 5G network.
The solution proposed is installation of a notch filter, where AKASS Engineering team assisted several Satellite companies to install such Filters which resolved the issue . If you are a VSAT service provider in Addis Ababa and your customer are suffering from intermittent reception issue, AKASS team will be happy to be dispatched to any site within the city and perform either additional monitoring or installation of a device.
One more note is that: Due to regulatory issue, all equipment including filters and LNB, should be sent to the end user. However AKASS Engineering, can provide GVF certified VSAT engineers for Technical Support and we can also supply consumables such as Connectors and Self Amalgameted tapes.
